Therapy Dog and Handler Certificate

Deepen the bond with your dog and bring joy to the people who may need it most by becoming a Therapy Dog team!  This class will cover training tips and techniques, help you to understand how dogs think, give you a primer on canine body language, and help you to establish a reinforcement schedule for well-known behaviors in order to prepare you for the Alliance of Therapy Dogs test.  You’ll also have the opportunity to meet other Therapy Dog teams and to talk with an ATD Tester-Observer.

Prerequisites: None, however, it is recommended that dogs be over 1 year of age, and have had some formal training classes in the past. If you’re not sure, here’s a self-assessment survey that should help you.

Class begins in in August 2018, on Mondays and Wednesdays.  This course is offered through Truckee Meadows Community College.  Click here for more information or to register.
